Choosing a school for your child is an important decision and we hope that this website gives you the relevant information. However, there is nothing like visiting in person for getting a flavour of the school, and discovering what a very special place it is.

We aim to provide a broad curriculum to nurture growth in all these areas. We recognise that the rate of development in each of these areas varies from child to child, therefore our curriculum and teaching methods are designed to help each child realise his or her maximum potential. St James’ Church of England Primary School believes that by building self-esteem and confidence, equipping pupils with skills to learn, by working together as a team and by involving all stakeholders (parents and others), it will ensure a continuous improvement in its high standards of teaching and learning.

The best schools know that education should be concerned with the personal development of the whole child, intellectual, physical, moral, spiritual, social, aesthetic and emotional’.

Please read the Prospectus and then come and spend some time here. You will receive a very warm welcome.

The school admissions criteria are as follows:

  1. Looked After Children/Previously Looked After Children.

  2. Children who have siblings attending the School at the time the applicant child is admitted.

  3. Children of full or part time salaried members of staff.

  4. Children with the strongest geographical claim.

Where any particular category at points 1-3 above is oversubscribed, criterion 4 (strongest geographical claim based on straight line distance) will be used to determine which child is offered a place.

Reception Children

Parents of children starting in Reception will be invited to an initial evening meeting when we can explain how to prepare your child for school and what your child will be doing when they start.  The children will be offered the opportunity to attend a number of sessions in school prior to their staggered start in September.

Attendance during the first 3 weeks is on a part-time basis to support our children to settle into school. Other start dates and patterns of attendance are also possible. These dates will be explained more fully at the preliminary meeting for new parents.

Moving into the area with school aged children?

If you are moving into the area with a child already at school, you are invited to visit the school and to meet the Headteacher. Please do contact us. Children who transfer to the school from another will be placed in a class according to age.

Our next Open Events

We hold a number of Open Events throughout the school year which are advertised on the website. If you cannot see an event scheduled please contact the school office to arrange an appointment to visit.
